Tapping is a set of techniques which utilize the body’s own energy meridian points, similar to acupuncture and acupressure. The idea is that energy flows through the body along meridian lines and you can stimulate their end meridian points by tapping on them with your fingertips. The meridian points are located on the top of the head, between the eye brows, at the side of the eye, under the eye, under the collar bone, around the wrist, along the fingers etc.
There are various versions of tapping – the original being that which was developed by Gary Craig in the 1990’s – called ‘Emotional Freedom Technique’ or EFT. A spin off of this technique is ‘FasterEFT’ aka ‘Emotionally Focused Transformation’. Both techniques are similar involving using your fingertips to ‘tap’ on the Meridian points – though both have different belief systems. For example, EFT believes emotional problems are caused by a blockage in the energy system and tapping clears that blockage. On the other hand ‘FasterEFT’ believes that tapping causes a blockage (like stepping on a garden hose) and thereby stops the emotional feeling being felt in the body. There are, of course, a number of other differences between the two belief systems.
However, it doesn’t really matter which belief system is correct as both methods basically involve focussing on the painful emotion (or physical pain) to bring it into the consciousness, then tapping on the meridian points, whilst at the same time repeating various affirmations or phrases in order to release it. What is more important is that tapping works!
Hypnotist Paul McKenna has used tapping with great success to treat clients as has Nick Ortner, author of ‘The Tapping Solution’.
Tapping can be used to help relieve emotional pain from bad memories, traumas, fears, phobias, physical pain not to mention relieving food cravings etc.
At LifeBoss a client who feels this type of therapy could help them will be shown how to ‘tap’ so they can do it at home by themselves having first, of course, been taken through some in depth tapping sessions, as required.
